About this place
A bowl of nira soba, piled with garlic chives until the noodles are out of sight, is one of the dishes to look out for at Kissa Ken. Diners say it also contains bean sprouts, charred menma and pork belly, with the smoky bamboo shoots making each bite particularly moreish. One diner found that the thickened soup clung well to the noodles and recommended the thin option over the thick.
Alongside the nira soba, the café serves Western-style favourites. The Napolitan, a Japanese-style ketchup pasta, comes with 11 ingredients. One diner who chose the thick noodles recalled their chewy texture, served on a hotplate, and the pleasantly balanced ketchup flavour. Choosing thin noodles for the nira soba and thick ones for the Napolitan gives the two dishes quite different noodle appeal.
For a heartier meal, there is an Ozaki beef hamburger steak made with 100% beef. A diner reported that it arrived sizzling on a hotplate, with the satisfying texture of coarsely ground meat. Other rice-based choices include curry with Ozaki beef tendon and braised pork, as well as dry curry topped with a soft-boiled egg.
Keep the café mood going after the meal with old-fashioned pudding, coffee jelly or a float. One diner described the pudding as rich and smooth. The menu also offers a float tasting set, with a choice of three from several varieties.
Some diners say they have been able to enjoy a leisurely meal alone in a private room. Kissa Ken can suit either a meal or a break.
